Adelphi University provides paid sick leave for its full-time and regular part-time non-faculty employees. Sick leave may be accrued and used under certain conditions.

Employees who will be out sick must contact their designated supervisor at least one hour prior to the reporting time whenever possible.

All non-union full-time employees, part-time, hourly and student employees are covered. Sick day entitlement for union-represented employees is covered in the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Unused sick days are not payable upon termination of employment.

Full-Time Non-Union Employees

  • Accrual: Full-time non-union employees with over one year of service receive ten sick days at the start of the academic year. New employees with less than one year of service and employees working less than a 12-month basis accrue up to ten sick days per academic year, at a rate of 0.83 days per month, paid at full base salary.
  • Carryover: Up to seven unused sick days can be carried over to the next academic year, with a maximum of 17 sick days available in any academic year.

Part-Time Non-Union, Hourly and Student Employees

  • Accrual: Part-time, hourly, and student employees earn one hour of sick time for every 30 hours worked, up to 56 hours per year.
  • Carryover: Up to 56 hours of sick time can be carried over to the next academic year, but no more than 56 hours can be used in any academic year.
