Adelphi University celebrated the renovated Ruth S. Harley University Center with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, where President Christine M. Riordan described the hub as “our beautifully reimagined, modern UC.”
The newly renovated and expanded Ruth S. Harley University Center is now a beautiful, environmentally friendly, state-of-the-art center for life at Adelphi.

Our reimagined Ruth S. Harley University Center has been recognized with the Long Island Business News 2021 Real Estate, Architecture and Engineering Award for Top Education Renovation. The honor cites the building’s excellent redesign and accessibility and its commitment to sustainability.
Come inside Adelphi’s new hub for campus life –a beautiful new centerpiece of campus, renovated and redesigned to fit the needs of our community today.
Despite the challenges of construction during a global pandemic, the new University Center (UC) is complete—and opens its doors to the community on January 18, 2021. We welcome you to explore our new light-filled UC—either in person or by viewing the photo galleries—and discover our beautiful new lobby and meeting spaces, improved student lounge, the reimagined Thomas Dixon Lovely Ballroom, our full-size Starbucks, expanded Dining Hall and outdoor terrace. More photos will be added of our expanded art gallery, new Adelphi Bookstore and other spaces as they become available.
The new Multicultural Center and Mindfulness Center, both on the UC’s third floor, are designed to bring the Adelphi community together. The former supports Adelphi’s diverse community and the latter offers a space to relax, meditate and reflect.
Early in construction, students, faculty and staff gathered outside the UC for a beam signing event, writing their names on a piece of Adelphi history. They signed a steel ceiling beam that is now placed high above the west entry, near the iconic “welcome wall”.
