Behavioral Intervention Team

Step by Step Process Flow

  1. An issue, incident, or behavior occurs
  2. Then a report is received
  3. The report is referred to the Behavioral Intervention Team

Continuous Actions Taken

The Behavioral Intervention Team continuously: Assesses the situation, Provides Support, Develops an Action Plan, Shares and Implements the action plan.

How it Works

Once a report is received, the team will:

  • consider the information that has been reported,
  • collect any relevant information on the individual and,
  • assess the risk and safety of the situation and individual.

Depending on the urgency of the situation, the team can be called immediately or the information will be discussed at the next bi-monthly meeting. During this period, we might ask the reporting party for further information or give them guidance on useful next steps.

In addition, the individual is provided with resources and support that can help them. Sometimes, this includes other team members or trusted staff reaching out directly to provide support to the individual. In the meantime, the team will determine and implement the best intervention for each unique situation.

Working together as a team, we will ensure a safe environment for the individual and the Adelphi community.

Privacy and Confidentiality in Reporting

Once the University is aware of a concern, information is shared only with those who “need to know” in order to assist in the assessment, investigation and resolution of the concern.

If you make a report to the Behavioral Intervention Team, as the complainant, Adelphi University will NOT disclose your information to the person of concern, but it may be shared between BIT Members.

The only times Adelphi University will disclose your information are in cases where no-contact order is put in place.
