Representatives of the University join together to provide information and advice to students, parents, and employees, allowing them to become familiar with the Department of Public Safety and Transportation and to address concerns and questions.

Adelphi Public Safety Officers are trained to investigate most crimes, however, the local police department will typically be contacted for crimes of a more serious nature. Adelphi University Public Safety Officers on the Garden City campus are accessible to students 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year.

Campus Safety and Collaboration

The committee will review policies and procedures at least (1) time per year and make recommendations for their improvement. The committee shall review:

  • Policies for campus response to sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking and hate crimes.
  • Procedures for referrals to appropriate authorities.
  • Policies for educating the campus community about safety and crime.

Learn how the university supports a safe and respectful environment for our community to express their views through demonstrations and protests. This includes information on our Campus Protest and Free Speech Policy, our Demonstration Policy, as well as the protocols in place to ensure these events are conducted safely, as outlined in the Emergency Operations Plan.

If you are planning to hold a demonstration on Adelphi University’s campus, please fill out the Demonstration Reservation Form.

Public Safety staff go to individual residence halls each semester to discuss security and safety issues concerning the residents. The Residential Life and Housing staff periodically conduct their own basic crime prevention discussions in their residence halls. To enhance our safety initiatives, we also have the Team Up For Safety program to promote community collaboration.

Adelphi students drive a Public Safety gold cart with "drunk goggles" to simulate drunk driving.

Adelphi’s Public Safety conducts an intoxicated driver simulation for our students to help prevent drunk driving.
