Credits to Graduate with a BA in Latin American and Latinx Studies

A Bachelor of Arts degree in Latin American and Latinx Studies requires 120 credits. With 5 classes a semester, this puts you on track to graduate in 4 years. Students pursuing a BA degree must reach proficiency in Spanish, Portuguese, or French. The language proficiency requirement can be met one of the following ways: a proficiency exam, completion of Levels I thru IV, or Native or heritage speaker status, as determined by the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures.

Credits for Major in Latin American and Latinx Studies

To qualify as a major, a minimum of 36 credits are required. 12 core credits are taken in Latin American and Latinx Studies. 21 credits are from five thematic areas: historical processes; literatures & cultures; economy, society & politics; comparative transformations; and methodologies. 3 credits is an elective from any of the aforementioned themes.
