Transfer Credit Policy
Your transcript will be evaluated on a course-by-course basis by the Office of University Admissions to determine course equivalencies, as well as exemptions from our PATH general education requirements.
The Office of University Admissions, in collaboration with the appropriate academic departments, oversees the evaluation and awarding of transfer credit for new students. As part of your transition to Adelphi, University Admissions will conduct a course-by-course review of your transcript to determine equivalencies and assess exemptions from the PATH general education requirements. Please note that the final 30 credits of your degree must be completed at Adelphi.
We will accept:
- Up to 64 college credits from a regionally accredited or NYS Board of Regents accredited community or junior college, including online courses. Students transferring in 60 or more credits must have a declared major. Credits taken at a recognized junior institution outside of the United States must be evaluated by a NACES-accredited credential evaluation agency.
- A maximum of 90 credits from a regionally accredited or NYS Board of Regents accredited senior college or university, including online courses, with the exception of those senior college credits previously applied toward a two-year program or an associate degree. Credits taken at a recognized senior institution outside of the United States must be evaluated by a NACES-accredited credential evaluation agency.
- A grade of C- or above for any course transferred toward a bachelor’s degree
- No remedial or vocational courses
- A maximum of 90 credits toward a second degree for students who have earned one bachelor’s degree and who are interested in pursuing a second degree at Adelphi
- All relevant and comparable courses completed by transfer students within the past 10 years at an accredited junior or senior college, with a grade of C- or higher, will be accepted for credit. Coursework completed more than 10 years ago will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
- For courses in progress at the time of application or acceptance—please forward an updated transcript to the Office of University Admissions once your grades are posted for an updated credit evaluation.
Transfer Credit Evaluation and Academic Advisement
Upon acceptance, please contact the Office of Academic Services and Retention and provide a copy of your preliminary transfer credit evaluation. An academic advisor will assist you in planning your course schedule and selecting a major if you have not yet done so. Depending on the number of transferable credits you have earned, you may be assigned directly to an advisor within your major. Your advisor will also review your transfer credits to determine whether they fulfill major requirements.
Please note that credits listed on your preliminary transfer credit evaluation will not appear on your Degree Audit until all official transcripts from your previous institutions have been received. Additionally, any in-progress coursework will not be reflected on your Degree Audit until your grades have been received and reviewed, so be sure to discuss those courses with your academic advisor when making your schedule.
