Procedures
Defensive Driving Course Requirements
In person classes by Adelphi University are no longer offered on campus at this time, however, certificates will continue to be accepted if obtained from an external in-person or online course.
Authorized University Drivers are now required to obtain their NYS Defensive Driving/Accident Prevention Certificate online from a provider on the following NYS DMV link, which provides approved sponsored agencies who provide accident prevention courses that reduce points and insurance premiums. Contact any of these course providers to get information about a course in your area and to determine the course fee and duration.
Course Fees
You can contact any of the providers listed above regarding course fees. It is at the discretion of Department heads with employees who are required to be certified to consider reimbursement to their staff members for the cost of the training course. Discuss your options with your Department head before signing up for the course.
Record Retention
Certificates of completion must be submitted to Public Safety for record keeping. To submit the certificate, you can bring a copy to the Transportation Manager, or designee, at the Department of Public Safety & Transportation in Levermore Hall Suite 115 or send via email to askpublicsafety@adelphi.edu.
