Faculty, Staff, and Students
Policy
The faculty, staff and students of Adelphi University make up a community whose common commitment is to learning. This commitment requires that the highest value be placed on the use of reason and collegiality and that violence within the University community be renounced as contrary to its goals. Violence, whether actual or threatened, destroys the mutual trust which must bind the members of the community if they are to be successful in the pursuit of learning. The University wishes to make it clear that it considers acts and threats of violence to constitute serious violations of University policy and that violators of this policy will face disciplinary action, up to, and including, termination of employment or expulsion from the University.
Supervisors have the responsibility to report to the Office of Human Resources any potentially threatening or intimidating behavior such as an employee who has verbal outbursts, brags about fights/violent acts done outside of work, etc., talks about weapons or violence, or exhibits changes in behavior. In addition, employees who others express fear/concern of (including spouses or family members), should be reported; as well as unusual emails, phone calls/voicemails sent to an employee, even if from an anonymous source, stalkers, ex-spouses calling or coming to visit a spouse against their wishes.
