Reason for Policy
This Policy sets out the requirements for posting and advertising position vacancies prior to the selection of a candidate.

Policy
Employment advertisements must be approved by The Office of Human Resources and appropriate department head. Only the Office of Human Resources may place classified advertisements for employment and/or recruitment purposes in order to provide a centralized advertising program, ensure quality and cost effectiveness, comply with the University’s Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action Program regulations and bill the appropriate employment advertising budget. Department Heads or Chairs must only utilize Human Resources approved ad verbiage on member only lists.

Procedures
- Once approval is obtained from the appropriate department head, the department/school may request that the Office of Human Resources place an advertisement.
- The department/school must provide the Office of Human Resources with the following information about the position:
- Job title
- Job Description
- Desired publication(s)
- All ads must comply with Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action Program regulations and include the words, “Adelphi University is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer committed to building a diverse workforce and strongly encourages applications from women, under-represented groups, members of the LGBT community, people with disabilities and veterans.”
- The Office of Human Resources will fax or e-mail a draft of the advertisement (including the price and placement date) to the department for final approval upon request.
- All invoices for ads will be processed in the Office of Human Resources and billed to the department placing the ad.
- The Office of Human Resources will coordinate the recruitment process and no offers of employment should be made without prior approval from Human Resources or, for faculty positions, Office of the Provost, which includes a background check and, for faculty positions and executive leadership, subject to the Board of Trustees approval.
