Exam/Assignment Absence Policy
The goal of this policy is to effectively balance religious holidays observed by members of the university with the regular academic schedule and requirements of faculty and students.
Policy Statement
Adelphi University welcomes diversity in its community, and respects various religious observances. This policy sets forth guidance for members of the University to take such religious observances into consideration regarding course examination and assignment schedules.
Reason for Policy
The goal of this policy is to effectively balance religious holidays observed by members of the university with the regular academic schedule and requirements of faculty and students.
Who Is Governed by this Policy
Faculty and Students
Policy
Adelphi University requires that students who anticipate being absent, due to their religious observance, will notify their professors at the start of the semester. This will allow the faculty to take these observances into consideration in light of their course exam and assignment schedules. Also, whenever feasible, exams and assignment deadlines should not be scheduled on religious holidays observed by members of the class.
Students absent from class, clinical experiences, practice, labs, etc. on those days, (after prior notice to the professor), should not be penalized for any exam or assignment deadline missed because of those absences. Students must contact the instructor to work out suitable arrangements for make-ups or other satisfaction of academic requirements.
Faculty who plan to be absent due to religious observances should notify students in advance of the absence, and indicate the method of make-up.
