Dear Adelphi Community,
Exactly one week ago, the United States Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, removing the federal protection of abortion and returning authority on its legality to each individual state.
While access to abortion is legal in New York State, this ruling comes during an already tense time as we face ongoing stressors—the lingering impacts of the COVID pandemic, crimes motivated by hate, gun violence, and war, to mention a few. We are fortunate to be in a state that respects bodily autonomy and continues to make comprehensive reproductive healthcare available to all. As such, the healthcare services and support structures that we provide to students remain unchanged.
We recognize the myriad emotions that accompany this decision and will host a virtual processing space for our community on July 14, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. Together, we will engage in conversation, support one another, and provide education on the recent decision and its local and national impact. We hope you will find it helpful and healing.
In addition to this event, we want to remind you of Adelphi’s resources that serve and support women’s rights as well as bodily autonomy, and comprehensive health and reproductive care for all individuals.
- Our Health Services Center provides comprehensive reproductive care and resources for students seeking birth control, pregnancy testing, or other medical guidance.
- Our Student Counseling Center provides counseling and crisis intervention for all students.
- Our Employee Assistance Program provides all faculty and staff with counseling services regardless of medical plan.
- Our Interfaith Center provides a welcoming space for any community member seeking spiritual guidance.
Adelphi remains committed to the well-being and care of our students, faculty, and staff and to our broader community. We continue to advocate for and support you. We also thank you for caring about one another during challenging times.
If any faculty members would like to contribute to the planning of our July 14 event or other programs for our community, please reach out to Anna Zinko, assistant vice president for student affairs and the Center for Student and Community Engagement.
Please register for the July 14 event – we look forward to seeing you.
Sincerely,
