New and enhanced study spaces coming to Swirbul Library this fall.
As with many academic libraries, we are in the beginning phases of a major renovation to better support students’ needs for group and individual study spaces and to generally make the Library a more usable and attractive space for 21st century knowledge discovery and creation. The main areas on the 1st floor of Swirbul will be transformed this summer, with the removal of the bound periodical stacks, to make way for collaborative spaces and more individual study places. The Library will be open during the renovation.
We are relocating the bound periodicals starting today, May 29, 2014, and shifting other collections on the 1st floor and stack floor 3S.
Since access to bound periodicals will be disrupted this summer, use Alicat and the libraries’ website to locate e-journals. We will also honor all interlibrary loan requests for periodical articles—even if we own the print title. For immediate assistance, please see a reference librarian at the 2nd floor service desk or call 516.877.3574.
During the summer, a bound periodical retrieval service will be readied in time for the start of the fall semester. The service will also include scanning and electronic delivery of articles.
We appreciate your understanding and encourage you to take advantage of the new and enhanced study spaces coming to Swirbul Library this fall.
