Dear Adelphi Community,
On November 19, 2021 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) updated their guidance on booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to permit everyone over the age of 18 to receive a booster dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine if they are at least six months beyond their second dose.
Here at Adelphi, we are offering free on-site Pfizer COVID-19 booster shots to Adelphi faculty, staff and students.
We do not have the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) or Moderna booster vaccines on hand, therefore following guidance from the Nassau County Department of Health, we encourage individuals vaccinated with those vaccines to reach out to their healthcare provider or local pharmacy for booster vaccine availability.
The updated eligibility expands the criteria for booster doses, which previously limited boosters to individuals over 65, those with certain health conditions, and those who live or work in high-risk settings. Everyone who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine was eligible for a booster dose two months after the date of their first dose.
