On January 18, 2021, the completely renovated and expanded Ruth S. Harley University Center (UC) was reopened to the Adelphi community.
The completely reimagined and modernized UC is a spacious, sunlit, energy-efficient building perfect for gathering, dining, studying, accessing student services, grabbing a cup of coffee and holding meetings, conferences and events.
As we celebrate the reopening of our magnificent new building, we will provide a four-part look inside for our community members and friends. We look forward to joining our community in a grand opening when we are all together on campus again!
Lower Level – UC Dining Hall
The new Ruth S. Harley University Center offers four expansive levels that host a multitude of resources for the Adelphi University community. As students, faculty, staff and visitors traverse the building, its purposeful design and thoughtful use of space is apparent throughout.
A monumental glass-walled staircase connects the UC’s two most social areas—the West Lounge on the first floor and the UC Dining Hall on the lower level, which then flows on to the expansive patio area of the amphitheater. In connecting the lower level with the outdoor space of the amphitheater, the activities of the UC become intertwined with those of campus.
The UC Dining Hall spans the entire footprint of the expanded center, doubling the capacity of the previous dining space. Seating for up to 500 includes high tops, sit-and-stand adjustable-height tables, booths and traditional tables, many of which are equipped with power outlets for easy charging of devices.
Dining stations include:
- The Market – grab-and-go sandwiches and salads, hot breakfast buffet, hot entrée station and more.
- Back Bar Grill – grilled items, fresh meat and fish, as well as rotisserie-cooked meats.
- Innovation Kitchen – weekly rotating menu with varying themes.
- 500 Degrees – individual pizzas, calzones and rolls.
- Asian Fusion – freshly made sushi and a hot buffet of Asian-inspired dishes.
- Carved and Crafted – sandwich station offering Boar’s Head deli selections and paninis.
The UC Dining Hall features a food court setup, with payment stations at each eatery (instead of a main cashier) to streamline operations and eliminate long lines. Mobile ordering and self-service terminals will allow for advanced ordering and payment, increasing the convenience and shortening wait times for community members as they pick up their food. Click here to download the Transact Mobile Ordering app.
Also adding to student convenience, a print station has been added in the east dining area, enabling students to print their papers for class while enjoying a meal or drink.
Should diners wish to discuss their meal plan or any aspect of Adelphi’s food service, the Meal Plan Office and the offices of campus dining provider Chartwells are on the west side of the UC Dining Hall on the lower level.
The UC Dining Hall’s upgraded and expanded kitchen allows for the preparation and presentation of even more dining options than before. Expanded menu options and modern and plentiful seating make this the on-campus dining destination on everyone’s list.
