Meet Peer Educator Katherin Ramirez

Adelphi’s Health and Wellness Peer Educators play a vital role on campus by sharing with fellow students crucial information on health and wellness issues through campaigns and events.

College of and Nursing and Public Health student Katherin Ramirez has been a peer educator since her first semester at Adelphi, having been inspired by her own experiences with the peer educators when her mother was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer.

“When my mother was diagnosed, the first thing I did was go onto Google and try to educate myself on the disease,” she said. “I was horrified and scared. However, I used my resources on campus to receive knowledge on the topic—such as the peer educators, the hotline here on campus, and, of course, my peer adviser Lisa Vernale, who is a survivor. After attending several events, I knew I wanted to be a part of a program like this…students teaching students on the things that affect them the most.”
