The Department of Public Safety and Transportation is honored to be represented as Lieutenant James Smith was awarded the 2019 Irish Echo First Responder Award at an event held Friday November 8, 2019 in Midtown.
The Irish Echo honor the men and women who have, over the years, played a vital role in serving their communities, in addition to, adding to the story of the Irish in America. The awards honor all who serve in the front line of Fire and EMS departments around the nation. Award winners are drawn from Firefighters and EMS personnel who work in every state, and who are nominated by the public [Irishecho.com].
Lieutenant James Smith is the Fire Safety Prevention Supervisor at Adelphi University. As a Fire Prevention Supervisor, he works closely with Garden City Fire Department, Nassau County Fire Marshal’s Office, and the New York State Office of Fire Prevention to ensure the University’s Fire Safety is up to date and assist in trainings [“Smoke Out”].
