Katherine Hock '05 shares how she overcame her fear of public speaking.
As an all-star lacrosse player at Adelphi, Katherine Hock ’05 was accustomed to an audience, but she overcame her fear of public speaking while working at Coldstone Creamery where the servers must sing when a new customer enters the shop.
Now an assured public speaker and special education teacher, she attributes her confidence to her experience at Coldstone . Once you’ve sung your heart out to complete strangers on a daily basis, you can pretty much do anything, she says.
Currently, Katherine is a special education teacher at the Alden Terrace Elementary School, in the Elmont Union Free School District. She has been teaching resource room to 4th, 5th and 6th grade students for the last five years.
