Fans of the novel and cult classic film by the bestselling author and Adelphi alum are finally getting their wish for a sequel, with Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock confirmed to reprise their roles.
In 1998, Practical Magic, the film adaptation of the beloved novel by Alice Hoffman ’73, ’02 (Hon.), was released. It starred Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest, and went on to become a cult classic.
Over the years, fans have been clamoring for a sequel. Their wish has been granted. On June 10, Warner Bros. Movies posted on TikTok: “It’s official… Practical Magic 2 is coming!”
The post has been viewed more than four million times. Fans wondered if Bullock and Kidman would reprise their roles as the Owens sisters, and the answer is yes, as Kidman confirmed.
Hoffman herself posted on her channels that “Practical Magic 2 is in development and coming soon.” The series is just one of her numerous works and projects. A proud alum and loyal supporter of her alma mater, her latest Adelphi initiative was launching the inaugural Writers & Readers Festival in 2024. The festival is returning on April 4 and April 5, 2025.
Media outlets are as excited as fans, reporting on the news and updating their coverage as new developments are announced.
While you’re waiting for the movie, you can watch the original Practical Magic on DVD or streaming online, catch up on all four books in the series, and follow #practicalmagic2 on social.
