Peter Orszag, Citigroup’s vice chairman of corporate and investment banking, was quoted in a Newsday article on Monday, October 7 after giving a talk at Adelphi. Orszag, former director of the White House Office of Management and Budget said he believes it is very likely the government shut down will be resolved by the end of the month when Social Security and Medicare payments are due.
Adelphi Levermore Global Scholars freshman Harneet Gulati ’17 was a winner of the New York State Youth of the Year Award. Harneet says her involvement in the community began when she joined the Hicksville Boys and Girls Club in high school. Adelphi University’s new M.S. in Nutrition, offered through the College of Nursing and Public Health, was mentioned in an article in Garden City Patch regarding the students’ recent visit to the Museum of Natural History. Led by director of the Nutrition program, Clinical Associate Professor Diane Dembicki, Ph.D., the students explored the exhibit Our Global Kitchen: Food, Nature, Culture.
Adelphi University was rated a top ten college for its admission website by MyCollegeOptions.org. The criteria for selection were based on four main categories: Ability to Find Desired Information; Personal Contact with Admissions Staff and Students; Online Interactive Tools, and Website Design and Navigation. An essay by Assistant Professor in the English Department Cathy Chung was featured in the New York Times One Page Magazine on Sunday, October 13. Also in the Times was Professor Susan Weissner’s book review on Sunday, October 6. Dr. Weissner also discussed her new book, The Glass Slipper, in an article on The Daily Beast.
An article by Deborah Serani, associate professor in the Gorner F. Derner Institute for Advanced Psychological Studies, appeared in The Scientific American’s MIND Guest Blog. Dr. Serani discusses the myths and facts regarding pediatric depression. Her new book is Depression and Your Child: A Guide for Parents and Caregivers.
Adelphi’s College of Nursing and Public Health was mentioned in an article on Nurse.com about the Affordable Care Act. The article highlights how nursing programs at universities across the country are preparing their students for changes associated with the new law.
