The Department of Public Safety and Transportation is implementing a Fire Watch for the Science Building starting today, August 15, 2024, until further notice.
Final update: Science Building Fire Watch suspended, return to normal operations effective Thursday, November 15, 2024.
Please take note of the following:
- From August 15 to August 25, 2024, the Science Building will have a Fire Watch from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., and the building will be closed to all entries between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m.
- Beginning August 26, 2024, the building will resume normal hours, allowing approved individuals with after-hours access via their AU ID swipe card to enter. The Fire Watch will be conducted 24/7 until further notice.
In accordance with Section F901.7 of the New York State Fire Code, this Fire Watch involves implementation of a temporary fire protection measure in situations where fire safety systems are impaired, inoperable, or undergoing maintenance. This entails assigning trained personnel to monitor the affected areas continuously to watch for signs of fire and take any necessary action to ensure the safety of the occupants and property.
