Longtime Adelphi political science faculty member Regina Axelrod, PhD, died on November 3, 2022, with a legacy as an esteemed professor, campus leader, and faculty and student advocate. 

In her honor, her husband, Leonard Kahn, established the Regina Axelrod Faculty Excellence Fund with a $36,000 gift to support the Department of Political Science faculty at Adelphi with resources for continued professional development. He also established the Regina Axelrod Endowed Internship Fund with a gift of $36,000 to support internships for students in the Department of Political Science. This latter gift will be matched by the University as part of the Momentum 2 endowment matching campaign.

Dr. Axelrod had three degrees in political science and guest lectured for universities in Prague, the Czech Republic and Budapest, Hungary. She joined Adelphi in 1978, was a department chair from 1980 to 1984 and 1990 to 2014 and served as associate dean for academic affairs in the College of Arts and Sciences as well as on the Faculty Senate Executive Committee. She retired as a full professor in 2022. She was a past president of the New York State Political Science Association and active in many professional organizations.
