Creative Cups Is Back on March 14

NBC’s Pat Battle To Emcee at Adelphi Breast Cancer Fundraiser

When Long Islander Cindy Arroyo was recovering from breast cancer treatment she derived great comfort from Lincoln, a roly-poly golden retriever puppy. “Lincoln was a character with a strong, vibrant personality,” she says, who would curl up on her lap when she wasn’t feeling well and made her laugh with his antics. Last summer Arroyo lost Lincoln to acute lymphoma and to pay homage to the companion who had provided so much support to her, she made “My Golden Chemo,” an art bra that will help support the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Program where Arroyo is a volunteer.

Arroyo is one of 131 people who made Creative Cups, turning ordinary bras into works of art. Their creations will be auctioned on Thursday March 14, at 6:00 p.m. at Adelphi University in Garden City.

NBC’s Pat Battle, a breast cancer survivor herself who made a bra called The Glittering Garden of Hope with her daughter Clarke, will host the event.

This is the third time that Creative Cups has happened on Long Island where artists, breast cancer survivors, their friends and family members and others have used originality and creativity to transform the bras into folk art. For the third time in a row, Horizon Air Freight is a top sponsor; they are joined by LI Plastic Surgical Group, Dr. Karen Kostroff and Pegalis & Erickson. All money raised supports the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program.

In addition to the auction, a special exhibition, “Highlights—Selected Works from Creative Cups 2013,” will feature 15 submissions at the Ruth S. Harley University Center Gallery from March 4 through March 11.
