Carmen Ortiz ’78 was featured in The Boston Globe on January 1, 2012, for her work leading high profile public integrity cases as a powerful U.S. attorney in Boston, Massachusetts, a post she has held since November 2009. In December 2011, Ms. Ortiz won a noteworthy case against Tarek Mehanna of Sudbury, convicted of supporting Al Qaeda and plotting to kill U.S. soldiers in Iraq.
Eileen C. McDonnell, M.B.A. ’88, president and chief executive officer of the Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company, was presented the President’s Award—the American College Foundation’s (ACF) highest honor—in June 2012. The award honored McDonnell for her long-term generosity and service to the ACF and its advancement efforts.
Barbara Cataletto, M.B.A. ’99, was profiled in Newsday on August 12, 2011, highlighting her work as an expert in medical coding and reimbursement issues related to spine surgery.
David Pinkowitz, M.B.A. ’91, was recognized in Ones to Watch in Growth Strategies in the November 2, 2011, edition of Long Island Business News. Mr. Pinkowitz runs his own full-service marketing firm, helping law, accounting and technology firms increase their revenue by building awareness, developing relationships and generating business prospects.
Appointments and new hires
Anne Kontopoulos ’90, M.B.A. ’03, was promoted to assistant vice president of finance at Fidelis Care August 30, 2011. She’ll be responsible for financial regulatory reporting, budgeting and performance analyses.
Anthony D. (Don) Fiorentino, M.B.A. ’79, joined VERGO Interactive (VERGO) in September 2011, as chief executive officer to drive long-term strategic business planning and provide executive oversight of its sales organization.
Glenn Molin ’87 joined the CI Harvest Team October 7, 2011. He has and will draw from his 25 years of experience as a business owner with a medical background to represent CI Harvest in the ever-changing healthcare sector and related markets.
Tatum LLC, a national professional services firm that helps executives resolve financial, strategic and operational challenges, announced the promotion of Nancy Falls, M.B.A. ’83, to national managing partner of its healthcare practice on November 14, 2011. In this role, she will be responsible for growing the healthcare practice and working across the firm to drive Tatum’s market penetration within the industry.
Transparency International-USA (TI-USA) named Fredrick E. Curry III ’93, principal of Deloitte Financial Advisory Services LLP, to its board of directors on December 7, 2011.
Egnyte, a leading provider of hybrid cloud file server solutions announced Barry Davis, M.B.A. ’82, as its vice president of business development on December 12, 2011. Mr. Davis represents an aggressive move toward Egnyte’s vision of delivering hybrid cloud file sharing solutions to organizations from small to enterprise-sized businesses.
James F. Lubin, M.B.A. ’84, was named managing director of CBOE Futures Exchange (CFE) on December 12, 2011. He leads CFE’s strategic direction and is based in New York City.
Jeffrey S. Phlegar, M.B.A. ’90, joined MacKay Shields LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of New York Life Investments, as the company’s chief executive officer on December 15, 2011. Before his appointment there, Mr. Phlegar served as president of special opportunities and advisory services at AllianceBernstein.
Bob Vondrasek, M.B.A. ’79, vice president of technical projects of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), announced his retirement at the end of 2011. A longtime participant and leader in ANSI activities, Mr. Vondrasek is well known in the standardization community for his dedication to the development of critical standards, codes, and initiatives for public safety.
Abhijeet Muzumdar, M.B.A. ’04, became Bessemer Venture Partners’ (BVP) newest vice president on January 9, 2012. Mr. Muzumdar Abhijeet focuses on Internet and technology start-ups and financial services companies and has been closely involved with a number of investments including BharatMatrimony.com, Snapdeal.com, Home First Finance Company and Dhanlaxmi Bank.
Joseph Triscoli, M.B.A. ’93, was appointed to senior vice president of the Asset-Based Lending Division of Valley National Bank, the wholly owned subsidiary of Valley National Bancorp, located in New York City on January 19, 2012. Mr. Triscoli joined Valley in 1999 and brings almost 25 years of banking experience to his position.
Jennifer Pristera ’02 joined The Garden City Group, Inc. (GCG), the recognized leader in class action settlement and bankruptcy administration, as its vice president of human resources on March 5, 2012. Ms. Pristera has nearly 20 years of experience across the spectrum of human resources, including leadership development, talent acquisition and retention, employee relations and organizational development.
John C. Weisenseel ’82 was named chief financial officer of AllianceBernstein L.P. May 14, 2012. Mr. Weisenseel will lead all global finance and reporting functions for the firm.
Maria Scarangella, M.B.A. ’90, was announced as the assistant vice president of GEICO’s Tucson, Arizona, office on June 27, 2012, and will oversee underwriting operations for the states of Arizona, Utah, Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Washington.
