Every year, Adelphi Crime Prevention Sergeant, Gerard Lennon, conducts an intoxicated driver simulation for our students to help prevent drunk driving. Public Safety hosted two “Impaired” Driving Obstacle Course. The course tests how well you can navigate driving a golf cart through a maze with drunk goggles on.
Students and/or employees are provided goggles meant to simulate one’s vision at 0.08% blood alcohol concentration. Then, the student and/or employee is seated behind the wheel of a Public Safety Security cart and asked to drive through an obstacle course without hitting any cones.

Adelphi University performs this exercise to inform you of the dangers of alcohol use and operating a vehicle while impaired or intoxicated.
October 25th-26th, 2019, was National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. Public Safety Crime Prevention Sergeant Lennon, the AOD Peers Kainat and Tia, and Scott from the DEA collected nearly 100 lbs of unused Rx drugs.
The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. According to the 2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6.4 million Americans abused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet. The DEA’s Take Back Day events provide an opportunity for Americans to prevent drug addiction and overdose deaths.
National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week was successful in providing interactive awareness and prevention through a collaborative effort throughout campus.
