Adelphi University is proud to announce that it will participate and expand its education opportunities for veterans through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program (Yellow Ribbon Program), a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008 that allows private universities to offer similar low to no-cost tuition benefits that public universities can offer under the bill. Adelphi has agreed to match the Veterans Administration’s contribution of 50 percent of tuition costs, so that a qualified veteran would pay little to no tuition if they chose to attend Adelphi. University College is coordinating Adelphi’s Yellow Ribbon Program participation. Adelphi is committed to offering academic and support programs, valuable resources, and transitional services designed to meet the unique needs of currently enlisted military personnel and military veterans.

To be eligible, the individual must meet the Veterans Affairs’ requirements, as well as the University’s admission requirements:

  • You served an aggregate period of active duty after September 10, 2001, of at least 36 months;
  • You were honorably discharged from active duty for a service connected disability and you served 30 continuous days after September 10, 2001;
  • You are a dependent eligible for Transfer of Entitlement under the Post-9/11 GI Bill® based on a veteran’s service under the eligibility criteria listed above.

Adelphi University has a strong heritage of welcoming veterans to campus. After the end of World War II, the University opened its doors to many veterans seeking to further their education under the Post-9/11 GI Bill®. In addition, Adelphi President Robert A. Scott, a veteran, worked with elected officials, including former New York State Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton on developing the new and improved GI Bill®, which called for greater tuition assistance, healthcare benefits, and housing assistance for returning servicemen and women, among other things.
