Jovia Financial Credit Union - Celebrating 85 years Logo

Programming includes a robust calendar of workshops, programs and activities for Adelphi undergraduate and graduate students, and local high school students.

Corporate and community partnerships play a critical role as Adelphi University develops tomorrow’s leaders, creates new knowledge and connects students with transformational opportunities. This is why the University recently launched its Corporate and Community Partnership Program. The program serves as a bridge for Adelphi to connect and form mutually beneficial partnerships with for-profit and nonprofit corporations and organizations. These partnerships provide Adelphi students and faculty members with opportunities to advance their skills, while our partners get to work with a diverse and talented pool of students.

Jovia Financial Credit Union, one of the largest credit unions in the United States, is the inaugural partner in the new Corporate and Community Partnership Program. The credit union has long been a supporter of Adelphi’s mission-driven initiatives.

“We are so proud to partner with Adelphi and to sponsor these vital programs. From the moment I met with the program directors, I knew we had to get involved in supporting students on their journey to becoming future world leaders, thinkers and doers,” stated Chaka Adams, vice president of marketing and community relations at Jovia Financial Credit Union. “We’re making a difference in the lives of these promising young adults and Jovia is committed to providing them with the personal and professional tools to help them achieve their dreams.”

Jovia joins the Corporate and Community Partnership Program at the highest corporate partner level with a two-year agreement for the following initiatives:

  • Jovia Mentoring: Guiding and inspiring student success at Adelphi University empowers undergraduate and graduate students to achieve success throughout their college careers with one-to-one mentoring by volunteer faculty and staff. Using a strength-based approach to help students feel a sense of belonging as they navigate college life inside and outside the classroom, the program also exposes them to internships and research opportunities. This Jovia-named program launched in January 2023 during a National Mentoring Month celebratory event at Adelphi where Jovia representatives, Adelphi students, mentors and faculty focused on the importance of mentoring. Speakers unveiled details surrounding the various programs and provided information on how students and faculty can get involved.
  • The Hispanic Community Partnership Program is a free, four-day experience for Hispanic high school students to immerse themselves in college life while gaining the know-how, skills, resources and confidence to pursue a college degree. In addition to workshops on the college application process and critical reading and writing, a workshop on financial literacy for parents and students is conducted in English and Spanish.
  • The Jovia Financial Literacy Program at Adelphi University provides four on-campus workshops each year for students, faculty and staff on financial literacy topics to facilitate and improve their short- and long-term financial security.
  • Student consulting projects provide an opportunity for Jovia executives to work with students and faculty to find solutions to organizational and/or societal problems. This program allows Jovia to benefit from Adelphi’s vast academic resources while also identifying and assessing highly motivated college students for full-time career opportunities.

Jovia executives, including president and CEO and Adelphi alum John Deieso ’18, joined Adelphi students and administration at the launch of the “Jovia Mentoring: Guiding and Inspiring Student Success at Adelphi University” program in January 2023.

“I am thrilled by the multi-faceted and mutually beneficial partnership we have developed with Jovia,” said Thomas A. Kline, EdD, vice president of University advancement and external relations. “It is an institutional priority to build a robust corporate partners program, and it has been truly inspiring to see the impact this partnership has already had on Adelphi and the regional community. Thank you, Jovia!”

In addition, Jovia will be a Presidential Sponsor at the 2023 President’s Gala on June 10, and a Reception Sponsor at the 2023 Golf Classic on September 21. The credit union will also participate in a new employee onboarding program in partnership with the Office of Human Resources.
