Deborah Serani, PsyD, a senior adjunct faculty member at Adelphi University, psychologist and award-winning author, will release her next children's picture book, Sometimes When I'm Mad, in mid-October.
The book focuses on anger—and is the second in Dr. Serani’s Sometimes When book series, published by Free Spirit Publishing.
Anger is often an overwhelming emotion for children. Using gentle and straightforward language, Sometimes When I’m Mad describes a child’s experience with anger and the many ways it can surface, along with ways children can use anger management techniques.
“I wanted to create books that help children understand deeply textured emotions—and offer tips to adults to help guide their little ones,” said Dr. Serani of the book.
With quiet, sensitive illustrations, the Sometimes When collection helps young children work through big feelings, such as sadness and anger. The stories are accessible to children and grounded in research from an author with more than 30 years of experience as a psychologist. A special section at the back of each book provides more information and activities to help young children work through their feelings.
Sometimes When I’m Mad has been endorsed by child advocate and musician Raffi and reviewed as an “expertly written tale that explores and validates children’s emotions” by Kirkus Reviews.
The book is available for preorder now on Amazon, at Barnes & Noble and in bookstores.
