Adelphi University's Fourth Annual President's Gala Honors Outstanding Executives and Alumni

Adelphi University will hold its fourth annual President’s Gala, an evening to benefit student scholarships, on March 27, 2004 at the Garden City Hotel, Garden City, NY. During the evening, the University will honor three Long Island leaders for their vision and commitment to the region and the University.

About the Honorees

The University will honor Bethpage Federal Credit Union President and CEO, Kirk Kordeleski, as 2004 Outstanding Long Island Executive. Mr. Kordeleski has more than 25 years of experience in the credit union industry. He joined Bethpage’s executive management team in 1992 as executive vice president in charge of operations, and in 2000 was named Bethpage’s third president and CEO. Under his leadership, Bethpage has expanded to become a $1.7 billion financial institution with more than 120,000 members nationwide. Bethpage continues to diversify its membership base and provide financial services to underserved communities. Deeply committed to educational causes, Mr. Kordeleski has a long record of community service.

Jerry Landsberg, president of the Richland Group, Inc. will be honored with the 2004 Outstanding Service to Adelphi award. A longtime member of Adelphi University School of Nursing Advisory Board, Mr. Landsberg is a distinguished executive with extensive civic and philanthropic experience. He currently serves as chairman of the board of Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care and Rehabilitation and has served as chairman of the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies.

The Honorable May W. Newburger ’64 will be honored as the 2004 Outstanding Alumna. Recently appointed by Nassau County Executive Thomas Suozzi to the newly created Nassau County Planning Federation, she served for five terms as North Hempstead Town Supervisor. Prior to her election as the first female chief executive of a Nassau County township, she served for two years as a town councilwoman and for eight years as a member of the New York State Assembly. An advocate for women’s and family issues, she has held leadership positions in dozens of local and national volunteer organizations. Her many roles include serving as a New York State delegate to the National White House Conference on Families; chairing the Jewish Congress’ National Commission on Women’s Equity; and serving as a member of the State Judicial Committee on Women in the Courts, the Governor’s Commission on Domestic Violence, and the State Commission on Child Care.

This year’s black-tie gala will begin with a cocktail hour at 7:00 PM followed by dinner and dancing. President Robert A. Scott and Trustee John J. Gutleber are event co-chairs. They are joined by committee members William Ackerman, Linda Armyn, Frank Castagna, Samuel Prisco, Brian Golden, Dorothy Herman, Jacqueline Ross Hott, Karen Loeffler, Marty McMillan, Patrick Smalley, and Maureen Sullivan.
