October 1st, 2019 marks the end of National Campus Safety Awareness Month, but Public Safety will continue to provide awareness to the Adelphi Community so that they can remain mindful, not fearful of these safety topics.
Dating back to 2008, National Campus Safety Awareness Month (NCSAM) was unanimously approved by Congress to encourage a public conversation on important topics in violence prevention at our nation’s colleges and universities.
This years 2019 Campus Safety Awareness Month provided programs, events, and training represents the commitment on the part of Adelphi to be prepared. Topics for Adelphi NCSAM 2019 included Theft prevention, Rideshare (UBER, LYFT, etc) Safety, active shooter survival, hazing prevention, sexual assault awareness, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, and the dangers of alcohol and drugs.
One of our successful workshops this year was the Hostile Intruder/Stop-The-Bleed training co-hosted by Public Safety and Health Services. This joint training venture provided a Hostile Intruder lecture coupled with Stop the Bleed Training that provided life-saving procedures & techniques that individuals can utilize in cases of hostile intruder, workplace accidents, or natural disasters. The Department offered (2) open enrollment sessions in Swirbul Library for anyone from the campus community to attend.
It takes all of us working together to keep Adelphi a safe campus and all are encouraged, students, faculty, and staff to participate in training throughout the year. Although NCSAM has ended, the Department of Public Safety will continue to offer Training & Awareness programs throughout the year because we always want you to be aware of safety on our campus!
