The Student Government Association at Adelphi University found it imperative to speak out against instances of racism after the events of the past few days.
To our Adelphi University Community,
The Student Government Association at Adelphi University found it imperative to speak out against instances of racism after the events of the past few days, including the killing of George Floyd, among countless other deaths of people of color such as Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and too many others. These tragic deaths are a result of the enduring racial injustices in our society. We have a responsibility to use our platform to condemn institutionalized and systemic racism.
As the Student Government Association, we are accountable to advocate for all students and to create a campus environment where all students feel safe. As a group of campus leaders we must use this time to reflect on our own privilege and use our voices to take action in order to enact change. The Student Government Association stands in unity with the families of those killed in these acts of violence, the communities advocating for change, and students of color at Adelphi University.
To Black students at Adelphi – The Student Government Association is an ally. We are here for you, we support you, and stand with you during these times. To Non-Black students of color and to White students, we call upon you to join us in advocating and speaking against these instances and acts of racism that have occurred. To create change we must educate ourselves, hold those around us accountable for unjust actions, use our voices, and engage in advocacy.
We understand that the recent events that have occurred can be traumatic for our students of color. Please remember the services Adelphi has to offer to support your mental, physical, and emotional health. The Student Counseling Center can be reached at 516.877.3646 or via email at scc@adelphi.edu.
