In high school, junior Monique Marcelle was very involved in extracurricular activities. Once she chose Adelphi, she knew she wanted to be involved just as she'd been in high school. As a first-year student, she heard about Black Students United (BSU) and went to a meeting.

One year ago this month, we opened the doors to a completely reimagined Ruth S. Harley University Center that fits the needs of the evolving college campus. Our new UC is expansive, beautiful and sustainable—modernized for today’s student, scholar and visitor. It is accessible and welcoming to all and already making a huge impact on us.

Transgender Awareness Week runs from November 13 to November 19 this year and for the second consecutive year, Adelphi will hold events for the entire community.

When junior Nicolette Macchio was an incoming first-year student, she received an email about the First-Year Community Action Program (FCAP). “I thought, 'Wow, that's a really cool thing!'" she said. She joined and loved it so much that she became an FCAP leader.

In 2018, Adelphi University made history by opening the country's first sensory room at a college or university. The sensory room provides a calming refuge for students and others in the campus community who are on the autism spectrum or have other sensory special needs.

The Equitable Adelphi Action Team was formed in the summer of 2020 to help create and sustain an inclusive campus community. Formed by the Division of Student Affairs, the team consists of faculty members, administrators and students. Now is a great time for students to join and use their voices to bring forth change on campus.

Spirit Weekend is one of Adelphi's newest and already most beloved traditions. From Casino Night to Prestigious Panthers, it's a weekend where students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members can come together to show Panther pride and connect with one another.

This fall, Adelphi welcomes a landmark first-year class. A record 1,330 new students joined our Panther family, from 34 states and 23 countries. More than 300 transfers and 820 graduate students are continuing their academic journey with us this fall in our eight world-class colleges and schools. And we are joined on campus this year by 30 of our first community college students through our innovative Nassau-Adelphi Gateway program.

Students who have spent the past year learning remotely will notice a few changes on campus when they return. Among them is the Ruth S. Harley University Center (UC), which reopened in June after it was closed for renovation a little over a year ago. With expanded dining and meeting areas already in use, there are still a few new additions coming to the UC next year.

This spring, the Center for Student Involvement changed its name.

If you're on campus the week of August 16, you may notice camera crews. That's because The College Tour is coming to Adelphi.

Adelphi University has been recognized for its exceptional student support initiatives, programs and post-graduate success by GradReports, Colleges of Distinction and the Fiske Guide to Colleges in their latest iterations.

This past year, the Adelphi community showed its resilience and strength as we Zoomed through classes and meetings, connected with one another over FaceTime and dreamed of better days ahead. Now that the world is starting to reopen, our future is bright and the Panther community is ready to be back together in full force.

Beginning in Fall 2021, students enrolled at Nassau Community College (NCC) will be able to continue earning their associate degrees while being a part of campus life at Adelphi University. Students and alumni didn't let the pandemic dampen their altruistic spirits and continued to make a difference by helping local and global organizations throughout the 2020–2021 academic year.

Adelphi Gives Back Month is an Adelphi University tradition. Spearheaded by the Center for Student Involvement (CSI), it offers students multiple ways to make an impact on our community throughout the month of March.

Adelphi is a safe, welcoming and inclusive home for all, and the Campus Pride Index recognizes our unwavering commitment to our LGBTQ+ community. Our stars continue to climb ever closer to 100 percent. We are very proud.
