A vibrant place that transcends boundaries, fostering a sense of inclusion, belonging and empowerment for all students.
The Adelphi University Multicultural Center promotes student success, an inclusive and welcoming learning environment, and cross-cultural interaction and dialogue that fosters and affirms all individuals and their social and cultural identities.
An Inclusive, Supportive Environment
Opened in the fall of 2022, the Multicultural Center recognizes the incredible diversity of our campus community. It is intended to encourage interaction, awareness and understanding, while at the same time affirming our identities shaped by race, gender, sexual orientation, religion and national origin. The center provides a supportive environment where students can be their authentic selves and where they can explore their identities and the global and social issues that affect them. In doing that, it aims to promote student empowerment, leadership and peer mentoring.
Promoting Student Involvement
The center also helps students take advantage of the full range of opportunities available at Adelphi, connecting them with services, programs, clubs and organizations available on campus and beyond. The center has partnerships with:
- Center for Student and Community Engagement
- Interfaith Center
- Center for Career and Professional Development
- Office of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging
- International Services
- Academic Services
- Counseling and Health Services
- Alumni Relations
- Local community organizations
Multicultural Center Facilities
The center’s home on the third floor of the Ruth S. Harley University Center includes a lounge with soft seating as well as computer stations, a stage for performances and presentations, and a meeting room for workshops and programs. The center is open from 8:30am to 4:30pm each weekday. Food is allowed in the center.
Artists at Work: Mural for the Multicultural Center
When art education major Gianna Valente got the chance to design a mural for the Multicultural Center, she wanted to show the diversity she sees at Adelphi. The mural, representing student life on campus, was painted with the help of her classmates.
