Who We Are
University Libraries are composed of a set of units, each serving a unique function, supporting academic studies and enhancing research.
Information about how to contact units within the Libraries can be found here.
Administration and Centers
The learning hub Libraries at Hauppauge, Manhattan, and Hudson Valley support their local curricula, supplemented by the collections of the Swirbul Library and library cooperative services. The Dean’s Office in Swirbul Library at Garden City coordinates administrative and faculty unit support at all locations.
User Services
User Services provides front desk services to library patrons. We circulate Adelphi library materials, including course reserves and DVDs; schedule the collaboration studios; lend laptops, calculators, phone chargers, and whiteboard markers and erasers. Get your Interlibrary Borrowing and ConnectNY books at the Swirbul first floor desk. We can assist in scanning, faxing, and copying.
Research and Instruction
Librarians at Adelphi University Libraries are available to provide customized instruction for classes or for individuals. The Libraries provide semester-long support or individual class sessions to assist with research assignment development, skills assessment, and research readiness. We also provide personalized research consultations for scholars at all levels of inquiry.
Collection Management and Metadata Services
Collection Management and Metadata Services is made up of several sub-units. We build our collections to serve you through our Collections Strategies Unit; make purchases through our Acquisition Strategies Unit; enhance discovery and access through Cataloging and Metadata Unit; and manage all services with Library Systems Unit.
Art Collections and Exhibitions
Our exhibitions showcase on average 25 exhibitions a year by students, faculty, and emerging and established artists. All are welcome to explore our spaces which are complimentary and open daily.
Archives and Special Collections
We curate and document the history and operations of the university, collecting photographs, newspapers, yearbooks, and memorabilia. Our special collections include library materials in various formats, which are separately housed in a secure environment to protect and preserve rare, valuable, or fragile items. We also organize and host thematic collections and digital collections.
