Mentor Eligibility

International student mentors at Adelphi University must be currently employed faculty or staff members. They commit to serving for one academic year, providing guidance, advice, feedback, and support. This role is designed to help international students navigate academic, cultural, and social challenges, aligning with the program’s learning goals. Mentors will be skillfully matched with one or more students, based on the number of participants, shared interests, and geographic region (when possible).

Mentors are expected to:

  • Meet as often as your schedules permit (at least once per month)
  • Provide help by answering questions and sharing their experiences with students
  • Take initiative to drive the relationship between the mentor and mentee
  • Offer assistance navigating campus resources, and connecting students with appropriate personnel when possible
  • Discuss skills their mentee(s) could acquire to further student academic and career success
  • Provide suggestions and advice on getting involved on campus
  • Participate in a mentor training program facilitated by the Office of International Services
