Adelphi offers a variety of residential communities for specific interests.

Students may choose from a variety of residential options in our seven residence halls on the Garden City, NY campus, including several available room types and special residential communities. Adelphi also attempts to provide additional accommodations to meet the needs of students with disabilities through Student Access Office. Please note that the cost of housing depends on the room type and/or community selected.

Students may request a specific housing assignment based on their interests, academic needs or other aspects of their identity. Students should indicate their choices on the Residence Hall Applications. Assignments are based on room availability, and some frequently asked questions specific to these communities are included below.

Please review our FAQs for more information regarding residential life as a whole.

Gender Inclusive Housing

Gender Inclusive Housing—which is currently available in Chapman Hall, Eddy Hall, and Residence Hall A and B—refers to rooms where people of any sex or gender identity can live together. This housing option helps create an environment that acknowledges, respects, and appreciates the diversity of our student body. Students may choose to live in Gender Inclusive Housing because they identify as transgender, they do not wish to be identified by any sex or gender identity, or they prefer to live with a roommate of a different sex or gender identity.

The different rooms offer various options for living experiences. In Chapman or Eddy you will have community style living including gender inclusive communal restrooms as well as shared social spaces and events with underclassman students. In Residence Hall A and B students will have access to a semi private restroom with the other students living in their space and access to building amenities and events catered to the upperclassman community. Like all other on-campus housing options at Adelphi University, students are discouraged from living with their current partner regardless of sexual orientation. Please note that we have transitioned to a process where a person participating in Gender Inclusive Housing will be able to select their own space and make roommate groups through our traditional room selection process.

In order to participate you must first fill out the Residential Communities Application.

Gender Inclusive Housing is open to first-year students, sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students.

No. This option can benefit any individual since a student has the ability to choose or be assigned a roommate with whom they would feel most comfortable.

Gender Inclusive Housing is available in Chapman Hall, Eddy Hall, Residence Hall A, and Residence Hall B. Chapman Hall and Eddy Hall have all-gender restrooms with private showers. Rooms in Residence Hall A and B have semi-private single-stall bathrooms with a shower that is only shared among roommates.

View the cost of housing for rooms in Chapman Hall, Eddy Hall, Residence Hall A, and Residence Hall B.

We have recently updated how to apply for Gender Inclusive Housing. You will be able to select your spaces through the typical housing process after completing the steps below:

First, you take the first three steps that are necessary for anyone who is interested in housing in the upcoming year.

  • Your non-refundable deposit of $300
  • Your must be registered for classes for the upcoming year
  • Your housing application must be complete

While completing your housing application be sure to indicate that you are interested in Gender Inclusive Housing.

Then you must complete our Residential Communities Application, which is required to be filled out in order live in GI Housing.

This form will also be sent to any students who qualify for selection, marked GIH as a preference, but have not completed the Community Agreement form as of the qualifying emails sent out.

All these steps must be complete in order to create a roommate group with other GI Housing students and to select a room in GI Housing.

Unfortunately, like other specific housing options, there are a limited number of spaces available. If more students apply for gender-inclusive rooms than there is available space, then students who are not able to select a room will be placed on a Gender Inclusive Housing waitlist.

You will now be able to assign yourself to a space! After completing all of the steps for a housing application and the additional Residential Communities Application, you will be designated in the system to select your own spaces.

We encourage all students who do not have a roommate already to go through our processes to find a potential roommate. Some of these options can include our roommate socials offered in all of our halls, through some of our social media pages, through the “Find a roommate feature” on your housing portal.

Please note that you will not see any students who have not already completed ALL steps required of this process.

While the Office of Residential Life and Housing will not restrict the students with whom you live, we discourage students who are in an intimate relationship, regardless of sexual orientation, from living together.

The Office of Residential Life and Housing will work with any students who feel uncomfortable in their living situation. All roommate conflicts will be treated equally and options will be provided to ensure that all students are comfortable in their living situation.
