Communications and Critical Thinking
Learn effective communication, critical thinking, and research strategies for the digital age
This credit-bearing program is scheduled to take place from July 13-August 2, 2025 on Adelphi’s Garden City Campus.
This course is designed to introduce students to the critical thinking and communication strategies necessary for success in academic life and beyond. In this course, students will work through the process of developing questions and researching, using appropriate and reliable technologies, both in the library and on the web. Because the breadth of information available, electronically and otherwise, can be overwhelming and at times misleading, emphasis will be placed on information literacy, and students will learn how to gather and evaluate valid and reliable information through credible research. Additionally, students will write for various academic purposes, including summarizing, offering an opinion, and utilizing research to support a thesis.
You will:
-
- Identify a topic, develop a research question, and formulate a working thesis
- Differentiate between suitable primary and secondary scholarly sources
- Analyze, organize, synthesize, and critically evaluate information
- Utilize appropriate formatting and citation styles in writing assignments
