Lionel VIret headshotLionel Viret is president of Stago, a Paris-based company founded as a pharmaceutical company by his father in 1945. It now produces and distributes more than 350 testing systems and products used by biomedical scientists and clinicians dealing with hemostasis, the cessation of blood circulation, and thrombosis, the formation of a blood clot inside a blood vessel.

Viret, who majored in political science and minored in history at Adelphi University, worked in the company’s shipping and handling department during the summers. In 2007, he took over the company, which has grown to about 2,100 employees and now has subsidiaries in Asia and Europe. To adapt to and meet the needs of the fast-changing healthcare sector, the company continues to develop new products and systems with Viret at the helm.

In 2017, Lionel directed his $1 million gift to support the Viret Family Faculty Leadership Fellows Program, which provides Adelphi faculty members with leadership development opportunities that advance their careers and inspire innovation. Each fellow undertakes a consequential project of importance to the University.
