Teaching Philosophy

My approach to teaching has three pillars: authentic applications, active learning, and formative assessment. I reject the theoretical/applied binary, blending abstraction with application whenever possible. I am an experienced practitioner of active learning and structure my lessons around student engagement, peer interaction, and other high impact practices. When I assess my students, I reflect deeply on the purpose of the assessment and prioritize its formative aspects whenever possible.

Research Interests

Applied mathematics with particular interest in problems in music theory. Main techniques include optimization, simulation, and stochastic processes.
