Nicholas Petron (Professor and Chair, Department of Theatre) was born and raised in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan. First encountered “ritual” as an altar boy—this being supplemented by Saturday acting class at the Hudson Guild, spurred his passion. His degree in theatre from Kansas Wesleyan University was followed by an M.A. in the same from Adelphi University. He received his Equity card as the Prince in The King and I and followed that with 12 years of stage work. On film, he has worked with Al Pacino, John Cusack, Tim Matheson and Kate Capshaw. His commercial credits include: Ponderosa Steak House and Eagle Brand snacks to name a few. He is the voice of “Y”, “Up and Down” and “Pizza” for The Children’s Television Workshop and is a member of SAG-AFTRA and AEA. An “Ace” award winner for radio commercial direction, his stage directing credits include: Uncle Vanya, Holy Ghosts, The Rimers of Eldridge, Come Back to the 5 and Dime Jimmy Dean, Moonchildren, Steel Magnolias, subUrbia and Uncommon Women and Others.
