Gabriela Castillo, Esq. 

Ms. Castillo is an attorney with over a decade of experience in immigration law, social justice advocacy and organizing, and government. After working for several non-profit legal organizations as a Staff Attorney working on a wide array of legal issues, including representing immigrant families navigate the complex immigration legal system, Ms. Castillo switched gears and became the Director of the Long Island Civic Engagement Table, a nonpartisan group focused on increasing civic engagement in immigrant and working-class communities of color across Long Island.

In this position, Ms. Castillo led successful voter registration campaigns, supervised and developed curriculum for voter education trainings and worked on several initiatives aimed at voter rights and protection, collaborated with key partners in conducting several treatment and control experiments with the goal of assessing yearly voter participation in the Organization’s Get Out the Vote canvass efforts where, each year approximately 20,000-30,000 voters of color were contacted via door-to-door, mass texts, and phone banking all across Long Island.
In 2018,

Ms. Castillo was appointed by County Executive Laura Curran to oversee the Office of Hispanic Affairs and was later named a Senior Legislative Affairs Liaison to the County Executive where she remained until 2021. She continues to work in Nassau County government where she currently serves as Senior Counsel to the Minority Caucus of the Nassau County Legislature where she advises Legislators on key issues and assists in drafting legislation and policy.
