Leslie Uggams is a Tony and Emmy Award-winning actress and singer whose career has brought her from Harlem (The Apollo Theater) to Broadway (Hallelujah, Baby!, On Golden Pond), the big screen (Deadpool, Skyjacked, American Fiction) to television/streaming (Empire, Fallout, The Leslie Uggams Show).

Perhaps best known for her stirring portrayal of Kizzy in the landmark TV mini-series Alex Haley’s Roots (Critics Choice Award, Emmy and Golden Globe nominations), Leslie has been a force in the entertainment industry since she began her professional career at the age of six, starring as the niece of Ethel Waters in Beulah on television.  At the age of nine, she made her debut at the legendary Apollo Theater where she opened for such musical legends as Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald and Dinah Washington.

Seven decades after her debut, Leslie Uggams is a living legend. She has served on the board of directors at the Apollo Theater and is a member of the Theater Hall of Fame.  She has also been honored with two honorary doctorate degrees from the University of Michigan and the University of Connecticut, and an American Artist Award from Arena Stage in Washington DC, in recognition of her extraordinary contributions to the arts.
