Award recognition of the “Caring for Caregivers” scholarship recipients and panel of Adelphi advocates who are creating student-parent and family friendly policies.

The College of Professional and Continuing Studies (CPCS) is proud to host a recognition event honoring the 2024 recipients of the “Caring for Caregivers” scholarship. Made possible by the Women’s Giving Circle and formerly known as the Mother-Scholar Award, this scholarship recognizes students who balance rigorous academic goals with the responsibilities of caring for children or older loved ones. Nationally, 1 in 5 students are parents or caregivers, yet their unique challenges are often overlooked. Student parents and caregivers face a higher risk of stopping out of college due to these demands, making this scholarship a vital acknowledgment of their resilience and achievements.

The event will feature a panel discussion with Adelphi faculty and staff advocates dedicated to creating family friendly spaces, policies, resources and support for students with caregiving responsibilities.

The event offers a valuable opportunity for students who are parents or caregivers to connect with peers who share similar experiences and engage with faculty, staff, and university advocates working to foster a more family-friendly campus environment.

Featured Panelists Include

  • Lori Caniano – Assistant Professor Library
  • Allison Vernace – Chief of Community Concerns and Resolution and Title IX Coordinator
  • Traci Levy – Associate Professor and Interim Chair Department of Political Science and International Relations. Director, Gender & Sexuality Studies
