When it comes to LGBTQ+ youth, being able to support and affirm their identities can be lifesaving work.
Overview
This workshop covers basic information including definitions, the use of pronouns, and the differences between gender expression, gender identity, and sexual orientation. Participants will also learn important strategies to ensure that the LGBTQ+ youth they work with feel seen and cared for including interpersonal and organizational approaches. This workshop is ideal for caring adults in any setting including schools, non-profits, health care, and colleges.

Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Gain a basic understanding of common terms regarding gender and sexual orientation
- Understand the different between gender identity, gender expression, sex assigned at birth, and sexual/romantic attraction
- Review the proper use of pronouns and why they’re important
- Practice how to use inclusive language for all young people
- Take away key strategies for supporting and affirming LGBTQ+ youth

Faculty Bio
Kaleigh Cornelison, MSW, is a trainer, facilitator, and social worker. She supports nonprofits, health centers, and schools through engaging and creative professional development opportunities. Kaleigh specializes in communication, conflict, team building, trauma-informed care, facilitation skills, and youth development. She also works as the Manager of Quality Improvement, Youth Engagement and Resource Development for the Adolescent Health Initiative at Michigan Medicine. She has a Master’s degree in Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis with a specialization in nonprofit management. She lives in beautiful Ann Arbor, Michigan with her wife, rescue pup, Calvin, and baby, Amelia.
Adelphi University School of Social Work is an approved provider for continuing education credits for the following:

Successful completion for the award of approved continuing education credits requires attendance at the entire training/workshop and submission of a completed evaluation form.

Cancellation Policy
Unfortunately, we cannot provide refunds for cancellations made seven working days or fewer before the event for any reason—or for no-shows. We can provide credit towards a future workshop up to 24 hours before the event. After that, no credit will be issued.
