A tribute to James Baldwin which will feature music from his extensive personal collection discovered in his home in Saint Paul de Vence, France.
The Music Department’s Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Professor Cilla Owens will present James Baldwin: The Soundtrack in His Life.
James Baldwin was an African American writer and civil rights activist known for his thought-provoking novels, essays, plays, and poems. He was also an avid music lover who enjoyed all genres: classical, gospel, blues, R&B, and Jazz. This tribute will present selections from his extensive personal collection discovered in his home in Saint Paul de Vence, France.
