In this workshop, attendees will explore the theoretical foundations of grief psychotherapy with children and adolescents.

Overview

Through didactic and experiential learning, attendees will increase their comfort engaging in conversation and facilitating creative exploration with children related to death and dying. They will develop foundational skills in assessing the needs of bereaved children and facilitating creative intervention to support the unique psychosocial, needs of his population at various stages of the grief process.

After participating in this workshop, attendees will be able to describe the theoretical foundations for use of creative arts therapy intervention to support bereaved children and will become familiar with several expressive interventions suited to clinical work with bereaved children.

Learning Objectives

  • To explore the theoretical foundations of grief psychotherapy.
  • To describe the philosophical and theoretical models of expressive therapies and how they relate to treating children’s grief.
  • To demonstrate understanding of the unique psychosocial needs of bereaved children and adolescents and to formulate therapeutic goals for working with this population.
  • To experience and reflect upon creatively based psychotherapeutic interventions and directives that can be used in psychotherapy with bereaved children.

Faculty Bio

Rebecca Versaci

Rebecca wearing a purple sweater, glasses and smiling into the camera.

Rebecca Versaci is a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist, Registered Drama Therapist, and Certified Child Life Specialist specializing in child and adolescent grief and bereavement. In the hospital setting and in her private practice she facilitates creative interventions to help children and adolescents share their grief story, strengthen bonds with family and peers, and practice strategies to navigate grief. Rebecca is currently enrolled in Lesley University’s Doctoral Program in Expressive Therapies and passionate about using research to guide clinical practice.

Cancellation Policy

Unfortunately, we cannot provide refunds for cancellations made seven working days or fewer before the event for any reason—or for no-shows. We can provide credit towards a future workshop up to 24 hours before the event. After that, no credit will be issued.
