Pi Lambda Phi was founded at Yale University in 1895, becoming the first non-sectarian fraternity in the United States that accepted men of good character without regard to religion, race or creed.

At Adelphi University, the NY Phi Lambda Chapter of Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity was recolonized in 2010 by 19 founding fathers. Since then, the chapter has won the George A. Beck Outstanding Chapter Award from 2012 to 2014 that is presented annually to the Pi Lambda Phi Chapter with the most outstanding chapter operations, and has been recognized by Adelphi University as a Five Star Organization from 2014 to 2017.

The Pi Lambda Phi Endowed Scholarship was founded in 2011 to create a lasting tribute to the Fraternity and to continue their tradition of community and camaraderie.

The award recipient must meet the following criteria:

  • Be an undergraduate or graduate student at Adelphi
  • Be a member of Pi Lambda Phi Fraternity
  • Demonstrate financial need as determined by the Office of Student Financial Services
