Our Adult Fitness Program offers nutrition counseling and personalized exercise routines that can guide adults and seniors toward a healthier lifestyle.

A team that includes exercise physiologists and staff members certified by the American College of Sports Medicine performs comprehensive fitness evaluations and develops individualized programs. Participants are motivated to achieve their fitness goals as they learn how to exercise properly, efficiently and safely.

Adult Fitness Membership

Memberships are available on a limited basis to University faculty, staff, students, and other adults in neighboring communities. All participants must be over the age of 18. Entry into the program is contingent upon the approval of the individual’s personal physician. A physician’s clearance form must be submitted in order to participate in the exercise program.

Rates are subject to change. The yearly fees must be paid in full as indicated and all fees are due at the start of the enrollment period.

How to Join the Adult Fitness Program

To join the Adelphi University Adult Fitness Program, follow these steps:

Call Noreen DeNicola at 516.877.4260 between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm to schedule your appointment.

A $50 deposit is required to secure your appointment. Please make your checks payable to “Adelphi University”. Please note, that the deposit is non-refundable if you cancel or reschedule less than 24 hours in advance (for non-medical reasons) or if you decide not to participate after the evaluation.

The fitness evaluation takes about one hour. After the evaluation, you will schedule a one-hour follow-up appointment to:

  • Review your results with a staff member
  • Get an overview of your exercise prescription
  • Learn about the class format
  • Determine your resistance training program
  • Learn the proper use of exercise equipment

Health Precautions:

  • Inform the staff if you feel unwell or have symptoms of illness within a day of your evaluation.

Preparation:

  • Avoid eating, drinking alcoholic or caffeinated beverages, or smoking within two hours before your evaluation. Water and decaffeinated beverages are allowed.
  • Avoid strenuous exercise on the day of the evaluation.
  • Have a light meal about three hours before your evaluation.
  • Take all medications as prescribed by your physician.

What to Wear:

  • Wear loose, comfortable workout clothes and sneakers.
  • Women: Avoid bras with underwire support due to the included EKG.
  • Men: Shaving chest hair before arrival is optional but recommended for a smoother process.
