Across Adelphi University, students, faculty, staff and alumni are part of a number of task forces, committees, campus organizations and initiatives that are helping us create positive change and advance diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB).

Committees and Councils

Diversity Committee

The Adelphi University Diversity Committee comprises faculty, staff and students who work with all academic and administrative offices to monitor our community’s needs and to coordinate activities that enhance recruitment, retention, the curriculum and the climate. Recommendations for DEIB improvements and growth are made to the President and Board of Trustees via the Office of the Provost. This committee was established in 1998 and representatives from each of our new School and College diversity councils were added in 2020.

School and College Diversity Councils

Adelphi’s School and College Diversity Councils were established in 2020 and are an ideal place for individual community members to help foster more localized change. Reporting to the respective dean of each school, college and University Libraries, each council works closely with our Academic Diversity Implementation Team and the University’s Diversity Committee.

Organizations and Initiatives

A number of University groups that are dedicated to DEIB work to help us identify areas of progress and opportunity and to drive the change we want to see at Adelphi and beyond.

Academic Diversity Implementation Team (ADIT)

ADIT is a faculty-led group focused on Universitywide actions related to curricular enhancement, hiring practices, and supporting and promoting diversity with support from the Office of the Provost and the Office of Diversity, Equity Inclusion and Belonging.

Alumni Affinity Groups

Our alumni are an important part of Adelphi’s welcoming community. Our Pride Affinity Group and our Multicultural Alumni Chapter Affinity Group connect our graduates with a shared commitment to helping us further Adelphi’s DEIB goals.

Adelphi Pride

The Adelphi Pride Committee promotes visibility, acceptance and inclusion of our LGBTQIA+ community members through programs of action and education that raise consciousness, encourage sensitivity, develop allies and provide opportunities for support and community. The Committee partners with a number of other campus groups to support LGBTQIA+ causes.

African, Black, and Caribbean Studies

In 2020, Adelphi’s Center for African, Black and Caribbean Studies celebrated 50 years of interdisciplinary teaching, scholarship and cultural programming focused on exploring the historic, cultural, socioeconomic and political dimensions of people of African descent.

Diversity-based Student Organizations

Adelphi students have countless opportunities to make positive changes on campus and in our communities. Our student-run organizations comprise a breadth of interests, voices, and backgrounds.

Equitable Adelphi Action Team

The Equitable Adelphi Action Team was established in 2020 as a student-centered council empowered to make strategic recommendations to University leadership for addressing and combating racism, oppression, implicit bias and microaggression

Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Task Force

As we attain our goal of becoming a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), our HSI Task Force helps ensure that resources exist for Adelphi’s Hispanic students to thrive here.

Homeplace, the Affinity Space for Students of Color

Students of color at Adelphi are invited to be part of Homeplace, sponsored by the Center for African, Black and Caribbean Studies.

Interfaith Center

The Interfaith Center fosters the ecumenical spirit on the campus; provides opportunities for worship and fellowship; and encourages discussion of spiritual values and sharing of religious traditions.

International Services

We have welcomed students and scholars from 65 countries home to Adelphi. Their supportive world-class experience is ensured by caring expertise, thoughtful programming, regulatory guidance and professional advice.

International and Immigration Task Force

Formerly known as the DACA, International and Immigration Task Force, the group works to monitor and actively respond to issues related to DACA and immigration, and to erase barriers to student success by creating and strengthening on and off-campus partnerships that support our goals

LGBTQIA+ Task Force

Adelphi’s LGBTQIA+ Task Force’s ultimate goal is for Adelphi University to be an authentically inclusive campus for all community members and for students, faculty, and staff who identify as LGBTQIA+.

Student Veteran Task Force

Our Student Veteran Task Force helps ensure that Adelphi’s veteran students continue to have the resources, support, and flexibility they need for a world-class academic experience.

Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation (TRHT) Campus Center

Adelphi is one of few institutions of higher education to be named a Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation (TRHT) Campus Center by the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U). This group works to help erase structural barriers to equal treatment and opportunity on campuses and in communities.
