This workshop provides you with an overview of palliative care.

Offered exclusively to registered nurses (RNs and APRNs), participants will earn six Continuing Education Units through Adelphi University’s College of Nursing and Public Health, an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Northeast Multistate Division, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.  You will also be awarded a digital badge that you can add to your résumé or social media.

You will learn the history and philosophy of such care, as well as its various models and core concepts. You will also explore the role of the nurse as a member of the interdisciplinary palliative care team.

Can be taken individually or as part of the Healthcare: Palliative Care certificate program.

Meeting Time

Each workshop will require approximately six hours of work across two weeks, which must be completed before the end date of the workshop. You and your instructors and classmates will interact asynchronously — so there are no required class meetings on specific days and times.

Instructor

Dr. Denise Albano

Dr. Albano has been a nurse practitioner for more than 20 years working in the field of oncology and palliative care. She received her doctorate in 2015. She is presently  the Associate Director of  the Lung Cancer Evaluation Center  at Stony Brook University. She also is the co owner of the Wellness Center in Mattituck.  Through the years, she has practiced in many leadership roles as well as started up a successful palliative care program.

In addition to her clinical experience, Dr. Albano has published many articles in the area of lung cancer outcomes, treatment plans and screening. She has taught numerous nursing classes, including graduate level courses. Her passion to teach the next generation of health care professionals motivates her to share her expertise and knowledge.

Dr. Albano is excited to teach this semester as she is an Adelphi Alumni and presently her daughter is following in her footsteps in the nursing program at Adelphi.

Dr. Albano possess the expertise, leadership, training, and motivation necessary to successfully provide quality education and training in this area of expertise
