Social, Emotional Skills for Social Workers: Lessons Learned Along the Way

This three hour course offers social workers at any stage in their careers to claim their role as lifelong learners in their own social, emotional learning. This workshop will explore the social, emotional skills needed for work with clients, supervisees, supervisors and coworkers which will be needed more than ever as we navigate our post-covid social work practice.

Learning Objectives

Those who attend this webinar will be able to:

1. identify how CASEL model of social, emotional learning applies to social workers
2. define and apply the following twelve tools in your social, emotional skills toolbox in your social work practice: learning from difficult people, power and vulnerability, living in the “and”, companioning, empathy blockers, shame resilience, use of humor and play, apologizing, meaning making, trauma stewardship, listening to behavior and love.
3. utilize social, emotional learning skills to decrease burnout and vicarious trauma.

Connie Palmer

Connie Palmer is a licensed clinical social worker who is an experienced teacher, therapist and school counselor with more than thirty years of experience working with youth and their families.She is currently the Clinical Training Director for Imagine, a Center for Coping with Loss in Mountainside, NJ.She presents seminars on various topics such as: grief and loss, resilience, shame, parenting, anti-bullying, depression and anxiety.

New York State Office of the Professions (NYSED) regulations require that participants must be present for the entire approved educational activity in order to receive a certificate for continuing education hours. There is no accommodation in the State regulations for late arrival, late return from lunch or breaks, or early departure. According to NYSED, in order to award social work CEs; “When you offer a multi-day or multi-part course/educational activity, the learner must complete all parts in order to earn the certificate for contact hours, in the same way that a student must complete a semester-long course to receive college credit. You may not award partial credit for a program, even a one-day program, if the learner does not complete all requirements at that time.

Cancellation Policy

Unfortunately, we cannot provide refunds for cancellations made seven working days or fewer before the event for any reason—or for no-shows. We can provide credit towards a future workshop up to 24 hours before the event. After that, no credit will be issued.
